The USA Powder 8 Championship 2014 wrapped up on February 28th, 2014. The event was held where else but Aspen/Snowmass, bringing a whole new meaning to Aspen Extreme! Teams of two competed for the coveted USA Powder 8 Championship title and trophy while trying to impersonate TJ Burke and Dexter Rutecki (characters from the movie Aspen Extreme).

The competition is two days long. Day one consists of two seeding rounds for each team on groomed terrain at Aspen Highlands. Here teams of two, one leader and one follower, try to make perfect round figure eights on the snow. The teams are judged on synchronicity, dynamics, roundness, symmetry, and line. After the seeding rounds, competitors head up to the famous Highlands Bowl for a head-to-head heat against another team.

Day two competitors head up the Silver Queen Gondola at Aspen Mountain and then load on an Aspen Powder Tours snowcat. The competition slope is located on the backside of Aspen Mountain on a place called Richmond Ridge. Head-to-head competition occurs again where the first placed seeded team goes against the fourth seed while the second placed seeded team goes against third. Out of these heats, the winners go against each other in the championship round. The losers of the heat battle for third place in a consolation round.

Congratulations to this year's winners, Kevin Jordan and Josh Fogg took first place in the Open Division and Maddie Voshell and Jenny Williams took first place in the Women's Division.

Special thank you to everyone involved making this event happen. Huge kudos to Jim Schanzenbaker who organizes the event each year. Special thank you to Aspen/Snowmass, Aspen Powder Tours, the Limelight Hotel, the judges, and other sponsors.
