Olympic hockey fans in America need to pinch themselves. The rematch of the 2010 gold medal game, won in overtime by Canada, is going to happen. Talked up before the Olympics, it has now become reality with the two teams slated to showdown in the Olympic semifinals. According to the Detroit Free Press on Wednesday, the USA advance to the semifinals with a solid victory over Czech Republic at Shayba Arena.

The USA team seemed to be in trouble at the beginning of the game as Czech Republic was strong. However, after picking up the pace it was a complete turnaround by Team USA toward the end of the game. Offering some great plays, it was Ryan Suter with three assists and James van Riemsdyk, Zach Parise, Phil Kessel, Dustin Brown and David Backes each scoring goals.

The intensity of the Olympic hockey can’t be overshadowed on Wednesday. Russia lost to Finland and is out of the competition. Canada pounded Latvia with Shea Weber scoring a tiebreaking power-play goal to advance in the competition.

Offering some great hockey, the semifinal game between Canada and USA will be one of the biggest. There is no doubt every hockey fan on the North American continent will be watching this game. It might not be the final gold game, but it is one of the biggest games the Olympics has to offer.
