Just over 20 years ago, the USA Fit program began training marathon runners in Houston, TX. It started with 50 runners in that Houston program and now has expanded to over 50 cities in the US and Canada. This year, USA Fit comes to Albany!
Training runners to achieve success in the Mohawk Hudson River Marathon or Half Marathon on October 9, 2011, USA Fit is an interactive program providing daily workout schedules, Saturday morning group runs and trained group coaches. The program also offers information sessions after each Saturday group run and a technical training shirt for each participant.
Like all of the USA Fit coaches, local organizer and coach, Jennie Heidbreder, knows a thing or two about training for long distances. Heidbreder is a veteran of 11 half marathons, having run her first one after training with USA FIt in Kingwood, TX (outside of Houston). Through this inaugural USA Fit Albany session, Heidbreder will be training for her 12th half marathon. She'll be doing something else as well: Proving that even busy moms can train for endurance races. In addition to organizing USA Fit Albany, Heidbreder is a mom of two young boys and works full-time. If she can fit in time to run, chances are you can, too!
If you are interested in taking your running to the next level, consider joining USA Fit this spring to train to run a full or half marathon this fall. The group runs are held at the Ciccotti Family Recreation Center on 30 Aviation Road (behind The Crossings of Colonie) each Saturday. You can read more about the program by visiting its web site.
The program kicked off on April 30th but organizers are welcoming new participants through May 21st. The cost of the program is $110 for new members and $90 for members of the Ciccotti Center. Online registration is available HERE.
