USA Film Festival invites you to the 27th Annual KidFilm Festival at the Dallas Angelika

On Saturday, January 22nd and Sunday, January 23rd, the 27th Annual KidFilm Festival is playing films at the Dallas Angelika at Mockingbird Station.


On Saturday the 22nd, the animated films Eleanor's Secret and Summer Wars. Eleanor's Secret was shown at the 2010 Seattle International Film Festival and chronciles the tale of a boy who cannot read but inherits a collection of magical books that allows him to join in the story. Summer Wars is about a boy who spends a majority of his time online and winds up having to band together with a mysterious woman to save the world. Summer Wars is an official entry to the 2011 Academy Awards.


Also on Saturday is a chance to meet the children's book author Mike Thaler and illustrator Jared Lee, whose The Black Lagoon series is now an animated short film, starting at 2:30. In attendance will be Mike Thaler and Jared Lee who will be signing the free books that will be handed out.


At 3:00 p.m., Diary of a Whimpy Kid will show, and in attendance will be the star of the film, child actor Zachary Gordon. The film is about Greg Heffley trying to survive the transition to middle school.


Also showing on Saturday is Gnomeo and Juilet, a humorous take on Romeo and Juliet featuring garden gnomes voiced by James McAvoy and Emily Blunt, and Grand Prix: Winning Tale, a story of teenage girl who becomes the target of bullying after moving to the city and decides to put him in his place by beating him at go-kart racing.

Tickets are $3 per program for children and adults. Because of a grant from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science, all tickets on Sunday will be made available for no cost as part of the Festival's Outreach Program.
