The USA Cycling Professional Championships will move from its current September dates to May beginning in 2011, according to a report on VeloNews.com
The two-day championships, which this year will be held for the fifth straight year in Greenville S.C., will begin Saturday.
With the move to a May day next year to Memorial Day weekend, the event follow within about a week's time of the end of the Tour of California, scheduled May 15-22.
The move will also help increase field sizes and international interest. Only 19 pro men are entered in this year's individual time trial.
According to the VeloNews article, the move will also mean the event will expand from its current two-day format to a three-day championship with a rest day between the time trial and road race competitions.
The championships moved to mid-September this year from the last weekend in August to accommodate two new ProTour events in Quebec City and Montreal and the now-defunct Tour of Missouri.
Two cities are vying to host next year's championships with the announcement of the locale expected next week during the Interbike trade show in Las Vegas.
