Look out world, 3 time US champion Jeremy Abbot will lead the team at the upcoming ISU Four Continents Championships in Colorado Springs, CO beginning Feb 7th. See www.icenetwork.com for streaming times and Universal Sports Network for programming in your area. Jeremy leads a team with two other very exciting skaters, Ross Miner and Adam Rippon.
2011 US bronze medalist and world team member Ross Miner overcame a 4th place finish in the short at this year’s 2012 Prudential US Figure Skating Championships. Ross is an aggressive skater with some really great technique. His triple axel can be called ‘nothin but net’, it’s that good. He had some trouble in the long, but fought through it to earn his place on the podium once again. He will make the needed corrections and show up at Four Continents ready to do battle.
Adam Rippon, the new 2012 US silver medalist, has overcome two giant hurdles that have plagued him in the past; the short program in general, and the triple axel in particular. With a short program constructed perfectly for him, he brought the audience to their feet and received marks just shy of 83 points ranking him right up there with the top male skaters out there.
The leader of the team is Jeremy Abbott. His short program this year is nothing short of flabbergasting. He is able to do such complicated footwork that it boggles the mind. Abbott put the demons of the past behind him, as evidenced by his sp score of 90.23, (over 5 points better than the sp winner at the recent European championships.) Coaches Yuka Sato and Jason Dungjen have provided Jeremy the tools with which to flourish and we witnessed the result. His long program at the 2012 nationals was not without flaws, but so outclassed the field that it didn’t matter. The program itself is a work of art, and received the highest ever total scores for a men’s event at nationals.
Looking forward, Four Continents next week will be a show that promises to rival Dancing With The Stars!
