The US Open tennis 2013 live stream and TV coverage will wrap up on Monday, Sept. 9 as the men's final takes place. It will be a third clash in the past four years in the final between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic for the championship, since Andy Murray was upset earlier in the tournament. The riveting men's tennis matchup will be on the US Open live streaming site and televised coverage through CBS.
According to USA Today on Sept. 8, these two top-ranked stars have met 36 times total, with one or the other winning 12 of the last 15 Grand Slam titles for men's tennis. Nadal currently leads 6-5 over Djokovic in that category. However, Djokovic is currently ranked No.1 in men's tennis, while Nadal is No. 2. That could change, should Nadal capture the championship again today. The latest matchup will continue the pair's storied rivalry.
The duo last met at Montreal, Canada's 2013 ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event. Nadal took the hard surface semifinals matchup 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(2). Prior to that they met in the semis at Roland Garros, where again Nadal was victorious. Djokovic won their 2013 Monte Carlo match easily, 6-2, 7-6(1) to take that particular title in the finals. Their last US Open meeting was for the 2011 title, where Djokovic won 6-2, 6-4, 6-7(3), 7-5. Nadal took the 2010 Open, and on Monday they'll look to break their 1-1 deadlock at the Open finals.
Nadal said he'd rather a different opponent than Djokovic, and strategically that makes sense. He told the media:
"I prefer to play against another one. But is what it is. At the end, well, we have to be honest, no? We don't have to be stupid.
We are playing at very good level so the match becomes great because we play long rallies, we bring our game to the limit (in) situations, and becomes a very difficult match for both of us. Hopefully I hope to be ready for that."
When it comes down to it, Nadal leads 21-15 overall in the meetings between he and Djokovic. Nadal has defeated Djokovic 2 out of 3 times they played already this year, one of which helped him eventually get to the French Open championship.
When asked, Djokovic called Nadal the "best player in the moment this year, no question about it." He added with regards to his own performance:
"Hardcourt is my most successful surface. This is where I can say I feel most comfortable and confident. Hopefully I can perform better than I have done in Wimbledon final and maybe get a chance to win a trophy."
So which of these top-ranked stars will capture their second US Open title in the past four years? Time will tell, with the clock counting down to their latest matchup. That will possibly define who is the No.1 overall player in the world, until they meet again.
Monday's Djokovic vs. Nadal men's final match has coverage starting at 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. CBS will broadcast this huge matchup on TV for cable and satellite customers. The match also appears scheduled for live online streaming at the US Open Live video feed. Coverage is expected to last until 8 p.m., or later, depending how long this match extends for.
