Harley-Davidson may be struggling these days but a new American motorcycle manufacturer has appeared on the scene. U.S. Highland, a producer of motorcycle engines for other companies, has announced its intention to begin production of five new off-road bikes, a quad, and two street bikes.

Headquartered in Mounds, OK, just southwest of Tulsa, the company now has 30 employees but expects to add 200 to 300 more in the near future.

All eight models will be fuel-injected six-speeds. Most will come with a selection of engine sizes and all will be custom-built to the buyer's specifications. Dealers will not keep any bikes in stock except for demo models. Once an order is placed the bike will be built and shipped in about one week.

U.S. Highland was formerly a Swedish firm that moved to the U.S. a couple years ago. They recently merged with Harcom Productions, Inc., and Harcom took the U.S. Highland name.

The models include:

  • MX
  • Enduro X
  • Supermoto
  • Trail
  • Desert X
  • ATX Quad Racer
  • Street Tracker
  • Viking

All are singles except the Desert X, which is a V-twin.

Although prices are expected to be high, the company claims that buyers will save time and money not needing to modify stock bikes, as so many do. Production is predicted to reach 20,000 per year by 2012.

Take a look at all the models in the slideshow below.
