US Highland is back. The Oklahoma-based producer of motorcycle powertrains for other companies and of their own factory custom motorcycles suffered a major setback in July 2010 when its company's president, chief operations officer, and chief financial officer all died in the crash of a small aircraft. After two years keeping a very low profile, the company has recently announced a variety of changes and new hires in top positions.
Most recently, US Highland also announced that it is adding an electric subsidiary to its fold.
In a release Tuesday, US Highland said, "The subsidiary was formed to take advantage of the demand for electric motor products, the company said in a press release. US Highland has already been in preliminary discussions with a prospective U.S.-based OEM that specializes in electric motor technology."
The company also announced that it has brought on Cathy Allison as its new chief operating officer. Allison has worked for General Motors, Ford, PPG Industries, Harley-Davidson, and Indian Motorcycle Company.
The announcement was made by John R. Fitzpatrick III, president and CEO, who himself was hired in October.
Earlier this month US Highland released the news that it is expanding its facility in Tulsa and is in the final stages of designing an engine for an OEM that is expected to net it a $30 million contract.
