US Debt Crisis: Can the US recover?

After the American Revolution and throughout the evolution of our nation The United States became a strong country based on individual freedom and liberty.  The United States accomplished greatness unsurpassed in all of human history which included contributions from all races and societies striving for freedom.

The industrial revolution catapulted America to become a world leader in technology, innovation and manufacturing. Since that time, the United States always responded in a time of crisis to help our neighbors, both foreign and domestic.  Then, the course of greed set in and started the cannibalism of our nation from within, turning the bankers into monopolists, politicians into spendaholics, and American citizens into indebted slaves.

The standard of living in the United States is dropping like a rock.  Unemployment is out of control, and the CBO estimates that if interest rates climb just one percent, $1.3 trillion dollars will be added to the deficit over ten years.  If economic growth slows by 0.1 percentage point, another $310 billion dollars will be piled on, and if there is a 1 percentage point increase in inflation, there will be an additional $900 billion.

Meanwhile, our beloved politicians stumble and fall all over themselves trying to claim credit for an achievement which has not even been accomplished.  The scenario is similar to the Miami Heat’s stage debacle  before the season ever started.  A great lesson to learn, celebrate after you win.  Thank you and congratulations to Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks!!!

The question now is how do we recover?  NAFTA opened the door for manufacturing and technology to leave the country.  Entire neighborhoods in Detroit are being demolished because utility companies cannot justify maintaining the infrastructure in abandoned areas. How can we compete with foreign competitors who pay employees next to nothing, while the same governments subsidize their own businesses to provide an unfair advantage?  American workers cannot work for a dollar an hour, and expect to take care of their families.  The cost of living is going up, wages are stagnant or declining, and if the course of the country is not redirected, all of the great accomplishments of this country will be just a thing of the past.

If Texas remains the only strong state in the union, will more be demanded from its’ residents to support the rest of the country, of course it will. The progressive income tax system only taxes wage earners, not unfortunate dependants of state and federal programs.  The federal government will follow the money, but not the economic model which has made the state of Texas successful even in these hard times.
