US Army holds public comments session on Fort Carson expansion plans

On January 26th the US Army held a public comments session for the Fort Carson CAB Stationing Implementation Draft EA concerning the expansion of Fort Carson with an additional combat aviation brigade that plans to do training exercises in Pinion Canyon with helicopters and drones. The event was at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Colorado Springs. Lively speakers, many of whom were members of the Pinon Canyon Expansion Opposition Coalition, filled two hours of public discourse and the moderator even allowed for additional speakers after those who initially signed in had a chance to speak.

Most of the crowd of about one hundred people in attendance were there to state their disapproval of the additional brigade on Fort Carson. A major theme among the more informative disapproving speakers was that the US Army needs to not only do an Environmental Assessment (EA), but recognize the need for an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) as per the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act.
