It seems like teacher training programs are appearing everywhere in the yoga community. We are bombarded with advertisements for teacher training vacations in India and Costa Rica in various yoga publications; this makes it incredibly difficult to know which program to choose.
The possibilities are unlimited; however, the US-1 Yoga Teacher Training school, which has been held yearly since 2003 at Little River Yoga, a quaint studio nestled amid the treetops and located appropriately on Little River Turnpike in Alexandria, provides its students with a thorough and gratifying education.
Beginning in September, students, previously strangers, become close comrades over the close to seven months that they spend intimately learning invaluable techniques and generally just enhancing their spiritual selves.
This past year, since the three instructors guiding the prospective teachers through the program focus on different styles of yoga, each month was dedicated to learning a new style, including Ashtanga, Iyengar and Viniyoga. There was also a weekend workshop dedicated to the philosophy of yoga, which allows the students to understand the history of how yoga became and why it has become so popular today.
Each week, students meet twice and then they are required to attend one weekend workshop per month. Though the weekend workshops are time intensive and sometimes physically exhausting, they will not disappoint their students in regards to learning new knowledge and becoming more confident in their own practice and their ability to relay what they have learned to others.
This program is life-changing, and it's also completely appropriate for people who might be timid about the idea of diving into their practice head-first. Someone who is almost a complete novice and might have only taken a weekly class at their gym but has a desire to learn more, build their strength and eventually pass their knowledge along to others will find comfort in the personalized training that they receive. The instructors are no less than approachable, as they have every desire to turn out the best students possible. And they do.
There is a free information seminar on this program at Little River Yoga Studio on Sunday, 27 June from 5 to 6 PM. This will allow you to ask any questions you might have about pricing, dates or the program in general. See http://us1yoga.com/ for more information about this free seminar.
