After Urijah Faber lost to Renan Barao for the second time last weekend many wondered what was next for the “California Kid.” It seems safe to assume that folks like Dominick Cruz and Raphael Assuncao will be getting the next bantamweight title shots (if all goes according to plan). That means that Faber might need to alter his plans if he’s looking for a big name fight. Specifically, change weight classes. Speaking to Fightline.com, the 34-year-old claimed it is a possibility:
“I’m going to stay at 135, but if there are some big fights at 145, let’s hear what these guys have. I would like to do some fights that are interesting.
“I feel like I’m getting better. My body feels great.”
Some of the big names that might interest the former WEC champion include, Conor McGregor, Ricardo Lamas, or Clay Guida. All three men would pose some interesting challenges for the Team Alpha Male product. Of course, Faber could also stay at 135 and try and work his way back up to the top with the hope that someone else beats Barao. Problem is, Faber has already taken out a lot of the top guys (McDonald/Wineland/ Mizugaki) and likely won’t trade hands with training partner TJ Dillashaw.
On Faber's plate in the near future however is recovering and resting after the TKO loss. The decision about his future can wait. Regardless which road he travels, there still seems to be plenty of juice in the tank.
