UPDATE 8/29/13: Lucy and Jackson have been adopted together. Their new loving family has not only opened their hearts and home to them, but also offered their former dad a visit, and will send emails, photos, and keep in touch with him. Now their dad has peace of mind knowing his babies are safe. Thank you to their new family and to all who shared for them!
QUEENS, NY - Certified Canine Good Citizens Lucy and Jackson have lost everything they love.
First their home during Hurricane Sandy, and now their 84-year-old dad who has moved into a nursing facility. The dogs are currently housed at a vet hospital in Howard Beach, NY, but they only have 7 more days of paid boarding.
Jackson, a boxer/pit mix, and Lucy, a lab/pit mix, are both two years old and described as well-behaved and loving . They are spayed, neutered, up-to-date on shots, and are both dog, cat, and kid friendly. They lived with four cats and were part of a dog social group for months.
They can be transported out of state to the right home.
Their dad previously lost his wife, his two adult children, and his home. Although this has been a painful, heartbreaking decision for him, he has finally come to realize that he can no longer care for them and must let them go. He knows this is the best thing for them since he has no family for them to be with.
What they are in desperate need of now is a good, loving home together where they can start to recover from all they've lost.
If you can help, please call Nicole at (718) 715-2633 or Elyse at (516) 236-4376 OR email them at email@example.com. Otherwise please share to help find someone who can, so that this dad can have piece of mind knowing his fur kids are safe and happy without him.
Said their dad's caretaker: "It took him months to accept the situation but he has come to terms that he is not able to care for them anymore and is at peace with the decision to have them adopted as long as they go to a SAFE and LOVING home. Very sweet man and loves these dogs with all his heart but is aware they are being adopted and is counting on me to help. They need a forever home...it's what their dad wants and I'm trying my best to do the right thing by him. He's anxiously awaiting their adoption."
