Urge Indiana lawmakers not to ban marriage equality in state constitution

Almost a decade ago in 2006 (how time flies) I campaigned against the Wisconsin constitutional ban on marriage equality for gays and lesbians.

I testified before a legislative committee against it. I went door to door and stood outside of public building trying to build opposition to it. I made phone calls urging people to vote against it. Unfortunately, it passed.

Now, one day there will not be only marriage equality in states like Wisconsin, but in states like Alabama. But Indiana is going to debate that question, very soon.

On Monday, January 27th there will be a vote, sometime after 1:30p.m., on House Joint Resolution 3 in the Indiana House of Representatives.

What this resolution does simply is ban marriages between gays and lesbians in the state of Indiana, if it goes on and passes a state referendum in November of 2014. Also it bans civil unions or domestic partnerships.

Freedom Indiana is the organization leading the opposition to this awful amendment. National groups such as the Human Rights Campaign, have offered their opposition to this discrimination in the state constitution.

If you are an Indiana resident, I urge you to go your state legislator homepage, at Indiana House of Representatives website or call 1-800-382-9841 or 1-800-382-9842. Urge them to support marriage equality. Also, if you also so desire please support Freedom Indiana and the Human Rights Campaign in this fight.
