Party hats, blow outs, and noise makers were not the only thing given out in Baltimore on New Year’s Eve. Some city party goers were given condoms as the URCity promotional team hit the streets to promote their “Safe Sexing in URCity” campaign. The URCity Magazine promotions team loaded up a luxury party bus and hit the streets of Baltimore kicking off its “Safe Sexing in URCity” campaign. Promotional items such as sex education flyers and condoms were handed out in party areas such as Fells Point and Power Planet Live, the Crown Plaza Hotel, Dubai Night Club, and more. The “Safe Sexing in URCity” campaign will continue throughout the year with the promotional team hitting the streets twice a month, along with hosting upcoming events like the Safe Sexing in URCity condom bar and HIV/AIDS seminars.
For many years Baltimore has ranked high in new HIV cases and continues to rank high in the numbers of those contracting STDs, like Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. With the numbers growing at an alarming rate the staff of URCity Magazine thought long and hard of ways to help prevent the continued increase and to encourage our readers to educate themselves. Recent studies show the HIV epidemic is far from over, especially in urban areas of the United States, like Baltimore, where HIV is more common, and sexually active African-American men and women are especially susceptible to infection. In recent years the Obama administration released a national HIV/AIDS strategy, which seeks to reduce HIV/AIDS by 25 percent within five years. The city of Baltimore also released a similar HIV/AIDS strategy in November of 2011. URCity Magazine intends to support these strategies by doing all they can with “Safe Sexing in URCity.”
