Urban Voodoo...The name in itself sparks so many ideas in the minds of folks. He’s set the record straight denoting the negative connotation voodoo represents… he is the combination of these two distinct words.
1. He was born in the city of Long Beach, California, and was raised in Inglewood, Ca. therefore “City“, being Urban.
2. His roots derive from are from New Orleans byway of Haiti, where his grandfather came to after immigrating from Haiti in 1907… so to pay homage to his forefathers, he kept the took the name Voodoo… which is nothing but Magic. Together we are presented with Urban Voodoo…or ‘City Magic‘.
Urban Voodoo's Creole culture still permeates in his performance…that of Spicy truth that burns in gestation. His distinct vibe can be felt due to being raised in the inner-city where he shows his urban nature. He merely found away to take two different characteristics of his own roots, nurture message to feed branches his gumbo of prose. The inner city, of Inglewood, California bred his style and magic. His word is a perfect mesh of urban sounds and uprising freedom fighting tunes of New Orleans souls.
Urban explains further, “I write concrete. There is no imaginary man holding the microphone here. I was raised in two distinct localities where the cultural norms are as different as Denmark and Hamburg are to each other, even though the two countries are both European.” he goes on, “I was raised in California and Louisiana. I grew up in a very stable tribal environment in my 9th ward locality of NoLa, and eventually I was raised by the hardened streets of the Wood; Inglewood, Ca., where childhood is eclipsed by reality and dreams are like the yeaning for true freedom.
