Since 2002 Free Comic Book Day has become one of the most coveted geek holidays out there. Fans converge on their favorite stores in hopes to get their hands on numerous free comics and take advantage of various sales and fun. On Saturday May 3rd, Urban Legends Comics was on the forefront of the fun bringing their own brand of festivities to celebrate FCBD like only they can.

The store kicked things off with a wide variety of sales, the table of highly anticipated free comics featuring Power Rangers, SpongeBob, Rocket Raccoon, Guardians of the Galaxy and so many more. As if the sales and free books weren’t enough, customers were greeted with free homemade cupcakes and cookies to get the sugar rush in gear and ensure a great time. In addition, artists Brian Delaney of Silver Sparrow Comics and Bobby Blakey of BDG Studios were on hand doing sketches and promoting their various books and prints while interacting with the fans.

The store was packed throughout the day with all ages of fans, some showcasing some great costuming including a young man in an awesome homemade Han in Carbonite and a wide variety of everyone’s favorite heroes. People mingled, purchased and looked to be having a great time. Urban Legends put on a great event that was above and beyond what a lot of stores did and still managed to keep it personal and enjoyable thanks to owner Aaron Settle and his team keeping everything moving along and attentive to everyone that was in attendance. As if Free Comic Book Day wasn’t enough of throughout the week of May 2nd-4th they have been collecting items for the Rockwall Animal Shelter with some extra free comics given to anyone that brought something for donation during the Free Comic Book celebration.

Urban Legends is a beautiful store that upholds everything you would expect in your favorite comic store. If you missed the event or have not had a chance to check out the store then you need to fix that problem now and get over there. There will no doubt be many more events at this location and if this was any indication it is the place to be for your entire comic, gaming, and pop culture needs.
