Urban Detox Club is the creation of Jen Morris and Rebecca Sadek, certified health coaches who think it’s possible to live a healthy life and have a life. Both women have had to face their own struggle with weight gain in their early 20's and realized the huge benefits that come from living a healthy lifestyle once they got themselves on track! Continue reading my interview with co-founder Jen Morris to get a better understanding of the Urban Detox Club program and how it stacks up against the other programs out there.
Why did you want to create Urban Detox Club? How does it differ from other detox clubs found online or in the city?
Urban Detox Club evolved from a food-based cleanse that I put together for some clients when I was in private coaching practice. They had great results, found the program very accessible and made permanent lifestyle changes. When I met my business partner, Rebecca Sadek, we both realized we missed collaboration and decided to team up and work smarter. We took the template I had and built upon it to provide more recipes, resources, education, support and greater value. That process lead to the creation of Urban Detox Club. UDC programs are literally a complete nutrition overhaul in a few short weeks. However, UDC is unique in that we focus on food - not deprivation or extreme dieting. There is SO much misleading, confusing or extreme information floating around when it comes to health and nutrition. We don't want our clients to get overwhelmed and paralyzed with fear so we help everyone take the first few steps to cleaning up their eating, addressing digestion, cravings and weight loss when relevant. Our clients are surprised at how satisfied they are during the process and how easily they are able to make the changes with the right support and tools. We are huge on support, coaching and education. Our ultimate goal is to equip clients with a new lifestyle - not a diet - that works from their schedule, goals and future.
What is your background in nutrition?
Both Rebecca and myself had our own battles with bad eating and unhealthy lifestyles throughout college and into our twenties. Ultimately, we both made decisions to prioritize our health and get back on track. These individual transformations lead us both to new careers in nutrition and health coaching. Rebecca and I both attended the Institute for Integrative Nutrition several years ago and received our certifications in holistic health coaching. Prior to meeting one another, we each ran successful private health coaching practices for two years in NYC. I also worked in the corporate health industry for several years prior to launching my private practice.
What do you love most about your job?
I love seeing UDC clients go from "I don't know if I can do this." to "Wow - I can't believe how amazing I feel!" UDC is such a personal labor of love for me as I know firsthand, how easy it is to take your health for granted and feel crappy all of the time. It doesn't have to be painful to get healthy but having some support, a little tough love and practical advice can make a world of difference. When a client emails, texts or calls to report a victory such as kicking their caffeine habit, getting rid of chronic bloat, or having their energy back, it reminds me that a few gradual changes can add up to major, life-changing results.
How has the public reacted to Urban Detox Club?
It's been a whirlwind. UDC has been an entirely grassroots effort from day one so we are just in awe of the number of new people who find us daily. We've had some lovely press and have an arsenal of success stories from our clients. We are continuing to develop new programs and expand upon our existing business so can reach more people and make an even bigger difference.
