This Thursday, July 10, the Runners’ Club of Greater Cincinnati begins their annual Urban Cross Country Series at a new location. This series consists of weekly free 5k races at a local park, this year at Lower Millcrest Park in Norwood for 6 Thursday evenings in a row. This year the RCGC is joining with the Norwood High School Cross Country team to present this race series to the local running community in preparation for the upcoming Fall Cross Country season. Races will begin Thursday evenings July 10 through August 21 at 7:30 pm.

These events are intended to be a lively festivity not only for runners, but for their families and friends as well for there will be DJs and concessions included and T-shirts sold at the park. There is no entry fee required to register, but if you would like your race time recorded for posterity you are more than welcome to pay a registration fee. The 5k (3.1 mi.) race course has 2 waterstops planned with the club, one at the beginning and another at the finish. Awards will be given to male and female winners in the form of cards and weekly recognition on the RCGC website for each series race.

All six races are scheduled for the course at Lower Millcrest Park in Norwood, and the RCGC is very excited about the new course. The series has been around for a long time, and has moved around between several different locations in the Greater Cincinnati area since its foundation in 1968 by Don Wahle and Barry Binkley. The series was initially setup for high school and college runners to prepare during the last six weeks of summer for Fall Cross Country Season.

Stacy Osborne has been the series director since 1987 and is the man in charge to contact for further information. He can be reached by phone during the day at 513-351-6300.
