Uptown's Windy City Hennepin Avenue Party-zone

Old Chicago Uptown: Bar and Restaurant. LOCATED: Uptown; 2841 Hennepin Ave. So. (tel. 612-870-1918); on Hennepin next to the 29th Street Greenway (across from the YWCA).

Perched prominently at the confluence of Hennepin and the 29th Street Greenway, Old Chicago presents anyone who happens to meander northward up Hennepin from Lake the sort of panache and style that anyone visiting the Windy Cities' Division Street party-zone has come to expect. Chicago in the midst of Uptown?!? No, we wouldn't have believed it either, that is, until we wandered in and found the place crowded with rambunctious revelers partying with an abandon that almost made us blush.
Known for Pizza and beer, the bar in Old Chicago sports a multi-faceted layout with several areas where you can get your party on. Whether you're playing pool (on their single table) or chatting in the street-side vestibule, you are surrounded by signage and bric-a-brac designed to make you feel like you're six-hundred miles away. The appeal of Old Chicago, however, comes from the exuberance exuding from the youthful bar-goers who frolic with the sort of enthusiasm that almost makes you think they're staying until 4am (but alas!).
Featuring thirty beers on tap, mostly foreign and "small barrel" domestics, there is something to be said when your serving staff - who seem to stay over the years - hangs around and parties when off-shift. They seem sincerely interested that you have a good time, and will hang-around and "shoot a few" just to prove it. This casual neighborhood bar offers 16 televisions that feature various sports and events and, during good weather, their three patios amount to their boasting of "the largest outdoor seating in Uptown" - plus, there's lots of free parking adjacent!
