Canada's top MMA promotion returns as Hard Knocks Fighting presents "HK 34", on January 17th at the Century Casino in Calgary. Hard Knocks Fighting is the fastest growing promotion in Canada with shows in Calgary, Medicine Hat, Regina, Estevan, Prince Albert, and expanding quickly to new cities. The action packed pro/am card will feature many of the top up and coming superstars of the Great White North.

In title action, Gurdip Rangi (3-0) of Tilt MMA battles Jesse Gregan (3-3) of Vault MMA for the vacant HK Lightweight Title. Rangi is a well-rounded fighter with 2 finishes and is coming down a weight class to challenge for the title. Rangi is an offensive minded fighter with technical skills in standup and on the ground. Look for Rangi to use his strikes to keep Gregan at a distance. Gregan is a master on the ground and can pull off a submission from any position. Gregan is also a durable wrestler and will look to close the distance in the fight and make the bout a scrap from bell to bell.

Devon "The Giant Killer" Smith (6-3) of Prestige Worldwide defends his HK Light Heavyweight Championship against Phil Towler (2-0) of Independent. Smith jumped weight classes regularly fighting at both heavyweight and light heavyweight but has settled in at 205 lbs, making him even more dangerous in the division. All his wins have come via stoppage or submission. Power in both hands, Smith loves to bring the action to his opponent and can always be found in the center of the cage ready to trade strikes. Smith is known around Canada for chopping down huge opponents in the cage. Towler will have to make up for the lack of experience he brings in to the cage and one way to do that is to meet Smith in the center and match him strike for strike. Towler is a well-conditioned fighter and shown in the past that he will not wilt under pressure. Look for Towler to try and get his respect early by trading punches or even going for a takedown where Towler can work his top game.

In the professional ranks, Dia Grant (7-8) of Dynamic MMA battles Craig Shintani (2-1) of Legends Training Centre in a Lightweight scrap. Grant is a HK vet and has a well-rounded MMA game. Grant can finish fights on the ground as he did in his last fight,. He prefers the rear naked choke, or on his feet with heavy punches. Shintani won his last two fights and is getting more comfortable in the cage. If he can match Grant's intensity, this fight should be a barnburner with the winner becoming the #1 contender to the pro series Lightweight Title.

Mike O'Neil (3-2) of The Fight Centre fights Chad Anheliger (2-2) of Canuckles in a Bantamweight showdown. O'Neil is angling for a future title shot and an impressive victory against Anheliger could do that. For Anheliger, a win here will push his record past .500 and get him the attention he believes he deserves. Look for these two 135 lb fighters to come out like their backs are against the wall with something to prove. Don't blink.
