A crash that left a driver for UPS trapped in his truck for over an hour tied up rush hour traffic on I-95 southbound in Bensalem today, March 5 2014.The crash happened just after 5:30 am when the truck and a van collided in the southbound lanes. The truck careened over an embankment and through a guardrail.
The driver , was trapped in his vehicle for over an hour. Rescue crews from Bucks County and Philadelphia worked feverishly to get the driver free. The was trapped in his truck cab at an angle. To complicate matters , thick brush and snow were getting in the way of firefighters.
State Police were able to keep at least one lane open. During the retrieval efforts to get the truck out , heavy duty tow trucks had to maneuver across the interstate, causing the entire roadway to be shut down. By 8:30 a.m. most of the truck was pulled onto the shoulder of the road and UPS workers were trying to offload packages ,and pick up those that spilled onto the ground.
Southbound traffic was flowing freely. However, a one mile long gaper delay was formed in the northbound lanes.
