Upper West in Santa Monica does it again…it brings local community together to celebrate the work of a new artist, SAVIO.
“Urban Dreams” opens Sunday March 3rd at Upper West Restaurant.
The solo exhibition depicts urban dwellings inspired by the artist’s travels to third world countries. SAVIO chooses a pastel hue, which lightens the otherwise serious subject matter.
We had time for a short Q & A with the artist…
Explain the medium that you are currently working on.
"I currently paint with oils and acrylics on canvas."
Can you tell me if you have worked in other mediums...now or in the past?
"I'm also currently working with sculptures in bronze. I have painted with watercolors and ink on paper in the past."
Did you always know you wanted to be an artist?
"Always."
How has your art changed over the years?
“My earlier work is much more figurative and impressionistic. My recent work is more abstract and inspired by design.”
Where are you from?
"Buenos Aires."
I heard you had a dance background…can you explain?
"I toured throughout Latin America dancing tango in my twenties. I go back to Buenos Aires every year since I moved to L.A. in the eighties."
