According to the Upper Darby police thieves are praying on patrons of gyms in the area with Planet Fitness on Lansdowne Ave, the latest target. This time the latest crime took place inside the fitness club.
Yesterday, according to police Superintendent Michael Chitwood, this episode involved a locker being broke into inside the fitness studio and the victim’s wallet being stolen. According to Superintendent Chitwood, “The victim’s combination lock was cut then removed and replaced with another combination lock. The victim’s wallet contained his credit card and several other pieces of identification. He stated further that “In less than five minutes the victim’s credit card was used in the nearby Rite Aid and CVS drug stores, totaling more than $1,200.” The two stores are next store to the fitness club. Photographs of the accused have been lifted from surveillance video.(www.delcotimes.com)
According to Chitwood, “Victimizations are increasing in all communities. Havertown had a similar job at their LA Fitness (on West Chester Pike) too. What the thieves do is watch to see what you are doing. You can’t leave stuff in the car.” This crime is similar to other thefts last week at Planet Fitness in Clifton Heights. Those crimes were committed by breaking into vehicles in the parking lot of the fitness club.
Chitwood advised, “People have to stop taking valuables into gyms or leaving them in their cars.”
