Upper Crust, next to the oldest church in the US on Old Santa Fe Trail, is well-known by visitors and locals alike. In the summer, you can sit outside and watch the world go by and in the winter, enjoy a spicy pizza pie in one of the restaurant's tile-floored rooms.
We enjoyed our pizza, salad, beer and wine while listening to guitar music on Sunday evening. The place was hopping and the kitchen was so busy filling orders, they could barely get out to the dining room to bus the tables.
But we didn't mind. The crust our pizzas was worth the wait. It was not a thick crust, but had a billowy quality that helped me decide that Upper Crust pizza was one of the best available in Santa Fe.
I selected the Classic Pizza Combo (size small) plus a fresh, crisp side salad. There was enough that I took some pizza home for lunch the next day. I loved the Santa Fe touch, green chile, on the combo.
Upper Crust also offers calzones and sandwiches.
Upper Crust also delivers to downtown locations so you can enjoy a pizza feast in your hotel room.
Upper Crust is not about atmosphere and the dining room could use a good cleaning. But it is about great pizza and friendly cooks. I'd definitely return and have a plan to order out for my next party.
