In a couple of my previous articles I mentioned the Portsmouth Basketball Summit, a basketball exposure event coming to the Hampton Roads area in April. Initially the event was scheduled to be held at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton on April 15th-16th. However, a few logistical changes have been made to the event in hopes of achieving the best turnout possible.
The event has been moved from the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton, Virginia to Maury High School in Norfolk, Virginia. The dates of the event have also been changed from April 15th-16th to April 16th-17th. The event will be held from 12 noon – 7:30 pm each day. The changes will allow for more scouts, agents, coaches to attend the event since many will also be in attendance at the nearby Portsmouth Invitational Tournament.
Many coaches and scouts have already expressed their intentions on attending the event. Coaches and scouts with ties to the NBA, the NBA D-League, and professional leagues in Canada and Mexico have committed to attending the event. Walker D. Russell, a scout for the New York Knicks, recently commented concerning the upcoming event:
“I’m excited to hear about the Portsmouth Basketball Summit coming to Virginia. It will be a great opportunity for players to get seen by teams from around the world and either get signed to a better league or to their first pro contract.”
