Now that the 2009 College Football season is over, save for the Bowl Games, and underclassmen have started declaring for the draft, we have a clearer picture of the QB class for 2010.
With that said here is a look at the top ten QB prospects for the 2010 draft:
1. Colt McCoy, senior, Texas- He has the toughness, he has the leadership potential, and he has the touch and the timing to be a fine NFL QB. He does have some accuracy issues, and he may struggle early in his NFL career
2. Jimmy Clausen, junior, Notre Dame- He showed a lot of toughness, and leadership ability during 2009 with Notre Dame. He will have to overcome the hype of being a ND QB, but has all the tools to be a fine QB one day. Let us not forget ND runs a pro style offense, so he has a leg up on some of the competition.
3.Sam Bradford, Junior, Oklahoma- After twice injuring himself in 2009 Bradford may have to once again stay in school, and earn a better draft spot for the 2011 Draft. He has great accuracy when given time to throw, but his durability is certainly in question
4. Tim Tebow, senior, Florida- without doubt a fine leader, and a guy you want on your tam, but where do you play him? Is he just a Wild Cat option or can he become a legitimate NFL drop back passer?
5. Tony Pike, Senior, Cincinnati- His 155.35 QB Rating from the 2009 season speaks for itself. Although after being injured, there are some durability concerns. Pike seems to have the tools, and projects as a 2nd to 3rd round pick
6. Dan Lefevour, senior,Central Michigan- Although he plays in the MAC, he is a four year starter, and has been very impressive. He has well over 200 completion in each of his years at CMU, and a 2009 QB rating of 135.00
7. Jarrett Brown, senior, West Virginia- While he operates the Spread offense in College, Brown was the back up to one Pat White and may benefit from teams needing a wild cat QB on the roster.
8. Jonathan Crompton, senior, Tennessee- He is coming off a very successful college season where he completed nearly 60% of his passes, passed for 2,565 yards and had way more TD’s than INT’s. A likely fifth round pick, he would be a project for a team like the Detroit Lions who need a legitimate backup QB.
9. Mike Kafka, senior, Northwestern- He is another senior, although with less experience than the other seniors, he had a very accurate arm completing more than 70% of his pass attempts.
10. Tim Hiller, senior, Western Michigan- Sure he is another MAC QB, but QB’s for the MAC have a lot of stock in NFL circles these days. Ben Rothlisberger hails from this Conference. His best stat is he has started all four years at WMU.
