Updated: Palm Pre price drops to $99

What are you waiting for? $99 is an absolute steal for the Pre.

UPDATE: The hopes and dreams of many have been crushed. In sad news, a marketing manager has tweeted that the price tag of $99 for the Pre is a mistake and it is actually priced at $199.

Some people are reporting that they were able to take advantage of the error and nab a Pre for only $99.

If you caught this fast enough, that might have been you. But Best Buy is working on correcting their error.

Bummer.

Palm has really been trying to push to get a ton of customers lately, and with this next move, they will probably get a huge influx.

According to Engadget, the price of the Palm Pre will be dropping to a mere $99 at Best Buy which of course will require a two year contract. They have no idea whether this is a long lasting offer or whether this is just a special for a week or so, but you better believe that a lot of people are going to get out there and nab one while the price is right.

This news comes only mere days after Sprint boss, Dan Hesse, told a conference that it was too early to tell if the Pre was a hit or not. The price drop also comes right after Palm released its webOS 1.1 update that again allowed users to sync their Pre’s with iTunes after Apple decided to block the function.

The offer is definitely a steal because the Pre is only poised to get better once their App Catalog sometime this fall and it’s hard to believe that this offer will last forever.

But if it does, remember not to blame the messenger.

So if you hate AT&T, don’t own an iPhone, want a great phone for an overly reasonable price, want to stick it to Apple, like buying alternatives to what’s popular or have been on the fence about buying a Pre, this is the time to spring into action.
