This is an update to the previous forecast, which currently appears to be on track for the most part.
The National Weather Service has issued a *Winter Storm Watch* from late Thursday night through Saturday morning. Present indications are that snow will arrive in western/southwestern Indiana by early Friday morning, and could be mixed with freezing rain at times. Snow will overspread central Indiana by noon Friday and then persist through Saturday morning, with flurries possibly continuing through Saturday evening.
Areas along and south of a Crawfordsville to Portland line should expect 5 to 8 inches of snow on the ground by Saturday afternoon, with lighter amounts to the north. Winds late Friday and Saturday will also cause blowing and drifting of snow, reducing visibility and thus worsening travel conditions. Persons in or planning travel to central and southern Indiana are urged to prepare for severe winter weather during this period (late Thursday through Saturday morning).
This storm will be closely monitored. Latest forecast models continue to differ somewhat on placement and timing of the storm, as well as the amount of moisture available this far north. Further updates will be issued as necessary.
