Update: Whitney Houston, Dead At 48

Singer Whitney Houston died earlier today, according to the Associated Press.

Details of her death have not been released, but Houston spokesperson Kristen Foster confirmed her death late Friday. TMZ.com is reporting Houston died at the Beverly Hilton hotel.

Houston had been battling a drug abuse problem for years, dating back to the period when she was married to singer Bobby Brown. She had recently finished work on a new album and this week was mentioned as a possible judge on season two of "The X Factor."

She was in town for the Grammys and was among the A-list performers planning to attend veteran music mogul Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy party Saturday at the Beverly Hilton.

CNN initially reported R&B singer Ray J had discovered Houston's body in her hotel room, but was later forced to retract the story after the singer's publicist denied the report.

Houston had won two Emmy Awards, Six Grammy Awards, 22 American Music Awards and 30 Billboard Music Awards. She had sold more than 200 million albums worldwide.

Houston is survived by daughter Bobbi Kristina, whom she had during her 1992-2007 marriage to Brown.

The Grammy Awards are set to air on CBS on Sunday and it's expected the broadcast will address Houston's death in some way.
