Update: Teen charged with vehicular homicide in wreck that killed Cumming woman

A teen was charged Friday in the death of a Cumming woman who was killed in a three-vehicle collision almost a week before on Ga. 9 in north Forsyth County.

Mr. Antonio Aguilera-Mora, 17, of Park Place in Cumming, has been charged with second-degree vehicular homicide and failure to obey a traffic control device, Forsyth County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Nelson said.

Mr. Aguilera-Mora is accused of causing the wreck that killed Ms. Lesia Bennett, 43, of Berry Court, officials said.

The incident happened shortly before 4:50 p.m. at the intersection of Ga. 9 and North Old Atlanta Road, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

The teen was traveling southbound on the highway in a 2004 Nissan Titan at the same time Ms. Bennett was driving a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer eastbound on North Old Atlanta Road, Deputy Nelson said.

At that point, a Forsyth County School bus, being driven by Ms. Sheila Trowell, 46, was waiting at a traffic light on Ga. 9 to make a left turn onto North Old Atlanta Road.

The two vehicles collided at the intersection on Ga. Hwy. 9, causing the Mercury Mountaineer to hit the front passenger side of the school bus, Deputy Nelson said.

Mr. Mora was transported to Northside Hospital where he was treated and released. Ms. Bennett, who was not wearing her seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the hospital, Deputy Nelson said.

The collision resulted in the closing of Ga. 9 at North Old Atlanta Road for approximately two hours.

Mr. Mora was booked into the Forsyth County jail Friday. His bond was set at $2,805, officials said.
