Update on the senior dog dumped on the street with a small bag of dog food (Photos)

Pappy, the senior pit bull mix who was dumped on the street by his family with an obligatory small bag of dog food, was willing - even eager - to obey the bidding of his savior, Kevin Miller, on this Sunday morning.

After being unceremoniously dumped by his family, Pappy remained in that very spot for several days. Yes. He was waiting for the family that betrayed him to return. Unfortunately, a family that can dump their pet in the middle of nowhere is not going to rethink their position. But, Pappy, and other dogs like him, do not understand that the moment they are tossed out will be the last time they will see their family. It's pathetic.

Dogs are faithful, loyal and devoted beings. They love their families unconditionally. The fact that dumped dogs are cast aside without even a whisper of guilt or remorse by their humans is foreign to them. By nature, dogs will never leave their family (their pack) willingly. And, so, they wait, and they wait, and they wait some more. To leave from the spot where they were dumped would be unnatural.

The rescue community, on the other hand, is all too familiar with the fate of discarded animals. Their very survival depends on rescue advocates. With this in mind, the rescue community from across the country and beyond rallied around this one little pit bull mix. It paid off.

It started with the compassionate members that comprise a group that calls itself Melrose Park Neglected Dogs. It is this group that was responsible for notifying the world - via facebook - about Pappy's plight. In addition, they watched over, and fed and cared for him until a more permanent solution could be found - hence, their facebook post.

After having been notified of Pappy's plight, Treat 'Em Right Rescue stepped up and took responsibility over Pappy's care and future.

Miller, an avid animal rescue advocate, volunteered to retrieve the undoubtedly tired out old-timer. Miller visited the location where Pappy was waiting for his former family, and was able to catch him using a trapping crate. Thereafter, Miller posted the following on his facebook page:

He was ready to go...let me put a leash on, pet him all over, check his teeth and then he jumped right in the truck...as if he's been waiting to do it. I bet he also jumped right in the truck with his shithead family when they dumped him!! Kind, mellow spirit. Walks well on the leash. Wants to get in the front seat!

Pappy arrived safely at the rescue's facility and is being allowed to rest and get comfortable in his surroundings.
