UPDATE March 9, 2013: According to Palm Valley Animal Center, the dog has been given an extension and is on "hold". A rescue outside of the Rio Grande Valley must pull him. There may be transport available to San Antonio or Houston. He will also need a foster.
The dog, now named Barchiel, is approximately two years old. He is tame but a little scared. PVAC reports that he was not aggressive with their officers when they picked him up.
PVAC will be testing him for heartworms on Monday and he will be vaccinated.
Please email Joy at jfbenson@sbcglobal.net if you can help with rescue or transport.

On March 7, the stray dog living in a vacant lot in Pharr, Texas was picked up by animal control and brought to Palm Valley Animal Center.
The good news is that he is safely away from traffic on the busy street.
The bad news is that pit bulls cannot be adopted out from this shelter.
According to Palm Valley Animal Center, they can only hold him for three days in order to give his owner time to reclaim him. After that, since he is a pit bull terrier, he may be euthanized. So this pup needs a rescue to pull him by Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 4:00 p.m.
The dog is a male pit bull. He is approachable, as is shown in his video below, however the shelter has not yet provided any other information on the dog.
If anyone knows of a rescue that can pull this dog, please contact Palm Valley Animal Center. Remember to be respectful if contacting them; they, too, would like to see him rescued.
Palm Valley Animal Center is located at 2501 West Trenton Road in Edinburg, Texas. They can be reached by phone at 956-686-1141 or email at info@pvaconline.com.
