Update on some of the dogs who survived deplorable conditions on Wash. property

Earlier this month, 39 neglected dogs and over a dozen dead dogs were found on rural property in Ford, Wash. The dogs had belonged to two elderly women who are suspected animal hoarders.

Several of the surviving dogs were taken in by the Colville Valley Animal Sanctuary, and according to Tuesday's publication of the Spokesman-Review, they are doing remarkably well, considering the deplorable conditions which they were saved from.

Two Pomeranians and a Pekingese were taken in by the Colville rescue agency, and when the dogs first arrived, they were in poor condition. Now, the dogs are putting on weight, their matted and filthy fur has been shaved away, and they are enjoying freedom for the first time in ages.

Enough progress has been made that the dogs will be available for adoption soon - perhaps as early as this coming weekend.

Many of the large, mixed breed dogs, as well as the other Pomeranians (and mixes thereof) were taken in at the Spokane Humane Society. On Tuesday, the Spokane Humane Society posted the following update to their Facebook page:

The dogs from the hoarding case are doing very well considering their circumstances and we will begin putting them up for adoption potentially Saturday. However any interested adopters should be aware that these dogs are not housebroken and will need patience, time and understanding from their new homes. Many of them have little or no teeth but they still do not wish to share food with other pets (we wouldn't either if we'd been in those conditions).
