In early November, an emaciated dog dubbed "Raphael," was discovered in Camino Iglesia in Pojoaque, N.M.
At the time of his discovery, the dog was literally skin and bones and weighed in at a meager 49 pounds.
Today, Raphael continues to recover from his pitiful state of health while putting on much needed weight.
On Monday, the Sante Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society reported that Raphael weighed in at 62 pounds; his veterinarian would like to see him put on an additional 10 pounds.
One week after Raphael was discovered, his owner came forward, claiming that the dog was not abused or neglected, but instead, sick. The dog's prior owner, Michael Riggs, claimed that he was saving money to seek out veterinary help.
Contrary to Riggs' claims, veterinarians treating Raphael did not discover an underlying problem which would have caused his emaciated state, and he has continued to exhibit a hearty appetite while steadily putting on weight.
