Update on brain-injured Pit Bull puppy (Petition)

Northumberland County, PA:  On January 17th and the 21st, the story of little Harper, a tiny Pit Bull puppy who was heartlessly thrown down an embankment to die were published here.  You can access those stories here and here, or at the links listed below.

The two people who were supposed to be her guardians did finally tell authorities what they had done, after initially giving false information to the police.  Shamokin residents Michael Wolfe and Angelina Coladonato were were identified as the alleged perpetrators of this horrible act of cruelty.  Wolfe told authorities they believed Harper was sick so, rather than get her medical treatment he stated he wrapped her in a towel and threw her off the embankment with the intent for her to die.  They were both charged for their respective offenses.

Harper survived the fall, but suffered a critical traumatic brain injury.  It was touch and go for little puppy initially.  No one knows how long she lay at the bottom of that embankment, seriously injured, alone and terrified.  But thanks to the compassionate actions of passersby who heard her and the amazing people at Mostly Mutts and Sunbury Animal Hospital, Harper received life-saving treatment.  She survived, but the injuries she suffered are horrendous.

When found, Harper couldn't move her legs at all.  She was completely blind.  She cried out and no one knows how much pain she must have been in.  She would try to lift her head, but it flopped around like a ragdoll.

Little Harper is making very slow, but definitely positive progress and has demonstrated an incredible will to live.  That she survived at all is a true miracle.  Slowly and steadily with the constant and loving care from the dedicated medical team and caretakers, Harper is making the journey towards rehabilitation from her debilitating brain injury.

The compassionate advocates at Hand4Paws, who drew up the petition seeking justice for little Harper posted the following quote from Carolann Boyer from Mostly Mutts:

“Harper is progressing and everyone is happy with her progress.  She is still having problems with her one side.  We are not sure if this was a problem before her accident or result from her accident.  She seems to be able to see a bit in one eye.  Praying she will get her eyesight back in both eyes.  She loves kibble and is now on puppy chow.  But still very thin.”  (Source.)

This precious little girl has a long and painful journey ahead of her and it is unknown just how much she can recover.  But, with the dedicated and loving care she is receiving, she will get everything she needs to recover as much as she possibly can.

The petition asking for justice for this heartless act of cruelty is still active.  If you haven't added your voice for little Harper, you can access that petition here, or at the link provided below.  Also, if you would like to donate for Harper's medical care, you can do so here or at the link below.  There is a request for donation of supplies needed by Mostly Mutts, which you can see here or at the link at the end of the article.

Harper was helpless to save herself and her only "crime" was being sick.  Advocates must now be her voice to help show the world that every life matters and heartless acts of cruelty will not go unpunished.

Keep fighting to get better sweet Harper.  Advocates everywhere will do what needs to be done to help you have a life filled with love and kindness and get justice for what was done to you.
