Beware the Batman is an upcoming computer animated television series based on the Dark Knight. The series is set to air on Cartoon Network starting in 2013 as part of the DC Nation block and will be a replacement for Batman: Brave and the Bold. As soon as Brave and the Bold ended its run in November 2011, Beware the Batman went into production so Batman could return with a more serious tone.
Sam Register, Executive Vice President, Creative Affairs, at Warner Brothers Animation stated, "We went deeper into the villain library and pulled out some other villains." because the studio did not want to do yet another Joker story. Register also said Katana (The Outsiders) would be Batman's new Robin, but not necessarily.
Kurtwod Smith (Red Foreman, That 70's Show) sat down with Movie Web to talk a little about voicing Lieutenant James Gordon and stated only two episodes have been recorded and also reconfirmed this will be an early Batman story. Smith had this to say:
"We just started. We've only recorded two, before Christmas. I like the general thrust of the show. It's early in the Batman story. Commissioner Gordon isn't even Commissioner yet, he's just Lieutenant Gordon. He doesn't trust Batman, even though they kind of end up helping each other out on an early case. Batman, in a lot of ways, is learning his way, and the relationship between he and Alfred is developing. It's fun and it's kind of straight in that regard, as opposed to being campy. I think it's going to be good, but it won't be out for at least a year or so."
