Update: Mike Huckabee attacks his critics over Maurice Clemmons commuted sentence

Mike Huckabee is not going gently into that good night over the Maurice Clemmons case.  For those who need a quick update Clemmons is the "person of interest" in the case of four Lakewood police officers who were shot and killed in Washington yesterday.  Clemmons was reportedly cornered by police who believed he might be dead but since then the police have said he is still on the loose.

Huckabee has found himself connected to Clemmons because of a sixty year prison sentence Clemmons had received while in Arkansas.  Clemmons had a violent past including burglary and multiple incidents of violence towards his guards yet his sentence was commuted by then-Governor Huckabee which made him eligible for parol.  Clemmons was subsequently paroled and set free.  Needless to say Huckabee has since been taking some heat for the commutation.

Today Huckabee first fired back at his critics by pointing fingers at parole board and prosecutors who dropped other charges against Clemmons after his sentence was commuted.  Now Huckabee is attacking those who are even mentioning the commuted sentence.  According to Fox News Huckabee stated,

Politics is the last thing on my mind. It should be the last thing on anybody's mind. To me it's repulsive that people are trying to bring something like that up in the midst of what ought to be a concern for these officer's families."

Huckabee's response seems to be contradictory to his own actions in this case and others.  Huckabee's Political Action Committee (not Huckabee personally) was the first to release a statement responding to the incident last night.   The statement released by Huckabee's PAC, like other statements Huckabee has made, attempts to spread out the blame for Clemmons' release to other people than Huckabee.  In addition Huckabee displayed little respect for the family of Ted Kennedy when he used Kennedy's death to criticize "Obamacare."  Indeed in both cases Huckabee seemed to have politics very much on his mind rather than simply being concerned for the families.

concern for these officers' families means ask who was at fault and how could it have been prevented...If Huckabee had kept his mouth shut, or offered an a apology, I would have been one of the first to say to err is human...but he didn't...he rushed to push off all blame on others...therefore, let's ask "who is at fault"...those officers' families would not have been in mourning right now if HUCKABEE had not commuted Clemmons's 60 year sentence...remember those names in 2012 HUCKABEE/CLEMMONS

Huckabee will hopefully be the last thing on everyone's mind when they next go into the voting booth. Take some responsibility.

Huck really pulled a boner letting this and others like him loose on society.

I guess I'm glad he never got past first base. I think this makes at least 6 murders committed by Huck - pardoned perps.

Grossly negligent with misguided sympathies toward dangerous criminals AND shifts blame to others AND attacks his critics?!
Wow, he's a natural for the democratic party. You'd better snatch him right up. He can't lose!
