Update: Macky Mack is Nutty Brown and a happy new beginning

Love-A-Bull in Austin, Texas heard about Macky Mack and even though their pit bull rescue was filled to the gills, had to save this dog.

This is a story of how rescue really works. Those hardworking people who are saving the nation’s dogs don’t get the big lavish funding enjoyed by some of the big corporate groups, but rely on foster homes and donations to save lives. Love-A-Bull, like most honest pit bull rescues, had no openings when they heard Macky Mack’s story, but they made room anyway.

Nutty Brown is Macky Mack's new name...an homage to the once scared of pit bulls chief of police, Wayne Nutt, who originally saved Macky.

Just so happens, one of the dedicated volunteers at Love-A-Bull writes a couple of wonderful pit bull blogs herself and has included his entire story with photos:

Nutty spent his entire life on a 10 foot chain. When Chief Nutt impounded Nutty for being starved to death, the dog didn’t even know how to run in the yard off chain. He would go ten feet and stop. Chief Nutt who’d never had dealings with nice pit bulls before, was shocked and deeply affected.

What happened next was amazing. Chief Nutt committed to this one dog. He would not release Nutty to the local animal control, because they could not guarantee Nutty wouldn’t be euthanized.

Enter Love-A-Bull who drove to Log Cabin, Texas to save Nutty and document this wonderful real life success story.

Aleks, Lydia and the girls of Love-A-Bull are showing Nutty a great life for the first time in his life. Something must be working by the big smile on Nutty’s face. He gets along great with his ‘foster sister’ and judging from some of the photos, his story is just getting beginning. What began on a 10’ chain look s like the makings of a future pit bull ambassador….just what the Love-A-Bull program is all about.
