On January 14, a piece was run concerning the four beautiful Georgia ‘reds’ waiting to be put to sleep at Floyd County Animal Control.
The four siblings had been relinquished by their owner to high kill Floyd County Animal Control in Rome, Georgia.
Luckily for these four dogs, destined to die, S.T.I.C.K.S., Supplying Technology in County Kill Shelters stepped up to the plate and to pull the four dogs.
Immediately after S.T.I.C.K.S. committed, two of the dogs gave birth. The group now has 15 dogs rather than the original four. “Within a day or two of the dogs being pulled and put in foster, the unthinkable happened. The two moms broke with parvo--and they were nursing the babies. In fact, one mom, who was terribly skinny as well, almost died nursing her pups. STICKS and the foster went into emergency mode."
"No expense was spared taking the dogs and puppies to vets and emergency clinics, etc. Pups were separated and quarantined. Areas were sterilized. The cost has been astronomical. The bill is in the thousands. Unfortunately after herculean efforts, 4 pups have died but 7 are still alive and it looks like all the adults will recover. The pups are not out of the woods yet and the bills are still mounting.”
