Debit was rescued by a coming together from bird and animal lovers who didn’t want to see him purchased by the wrong people.
Cheryl Poindexter is a wonderful Southern California animal rescuer. When she heard Debit’s story, she asked what could the community do to save this beautiful bird.
A chip in was created but not enough donations were collected to insure the highest bid.
Cheryl doubled the amount to $800 and was backed by a grant from the Heigl Foundation. The next highest bid was $750 which was very close.
Debit was confiscated from a poor woman with stage four cancer who could no longer care for Debit and her three dogs. When no one from her family came forward, the decision was made to auction Debit.
The shelter cared for Debit during his stay at Devore. According to Cheryl, he was extremely calm and loving. In fact, the shelter director even took Debit’s exit picture with Cheryl. This situation turned out nicely.
Debit is in very good hands and has a cute little girlfriend, Cheryl’s female grey.
He is great...have them in separate cages for now and when I bring my girl Zoe up to his cage the both show no aggression. Will take awhile to integrate them.
Debit is very centered and Zen. He chats up a storm. They are having conversations with each other now. So amazing.”
