Vegetarian and vegan foodies have two upcoming cooking classes to choose from, and Ken Immer of gRAWnola and OM Cooking will be the instructor.
On Tuesday, July 13, The Culinary Institute of Charleston at Trident Technical College will host a class as part of its Continuing Education program. From 6 -10 pm, participants will get hands-on instruction while preparing international and American vegetarian and vegan cuisine. Course tuition is $69 and participants are required to wear long sleeves, long pants, and closed-toe shoes. Registration is required and can be completed online or by phone.
On the following Tuesday, July 20, In Good Taste will host a Raw Power uncooking
class. Starting at 6 pm, Immer will recreate recipes featured in the April 2010 issue of Charleston
Magazine. Guests will enjoy dishes such as the Massaged Kale Slaw that Immer recently
prepared on WCIV's Lowcountry Live. The two hour event costs $45 and includes dinner and wine. Call Jacki at (843) 763-5597 to make a reservation.

It is utmost importance that the people who are choosing to follow a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle get professional training. I found that is hard to get all of your nutrients especially protein in these diets. Although I am a food professional I am not a professional in nutrition. My professional vegan friends tell me it is easy with a little knowledge. I found Quinoa to be an important grain in the diet www.painlesscooking.com/vegan-recipes.html
Hi Francis, and thanks for your comment.
It is not as difficult as some think to get adequate protein and nutrients on vegetarian or vegan ways of eating. The American Heart Association (www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=4777), Vegetarian Resource Group (www.vrg.org/nutrition/protein.htm), and Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (www.pcrm.org/health/veginfo/vsk/protein_myth.html) all have information on balanced eating plans.
Protein can be found in many plants, legumes, and grains. The lentil burger recipe on your site is an excellent example of a protein-packed veggie entree.
