With just over a week left in the regular season, Utah’s three professional baseball teams are making their bids for postseason play. The Salt Lake Bees are currently five games ahead of the second-place Tacoma Rainiers, with nine games left to play. The magic elimination number for the Rainiers is five games; any combination of Bees wins and Rainiers losses that adds up to five guarantees the Bees will win the divisional championship and advance to the first round of the playoffs.
The Orem Owlz are in a tight playoff race. The Owlz are currently leading the second-half standings, two games ahead of the second-place Idaho Chukars and six games ahead of the Ogden Raptors. The Raptors face a pretty stiff challenge with only 15 games left in the regular season. Their magic number for elimination from the playoffs is 10 games.
