Upcoming shows: Week of April 30th, 2012 (Highlights!)

If you pay attention to the fine print, many of the shows that are hitting Maryland this week will revert yourself back to sometime in the 90's. I'm a fan of it. (Examples: Marilyn Manson, Korn, P.O.D., Candlebox, etc.)

This is a preliminary list, there are many others than just the ones I have listed - so I strongly suggest you check out every venue's website that I link from this page.

And onto the shows! (All shows are all ages, unless noted)

Monday 4/30: IMP presents Death Cab For Cutie with the Magik*Magik Orchestra - Doors at 8pm - ALL AGES (Strathmore) - With bands like Death Cab For Cutie, I can confidently say, if you're past your teenage years - I can guarantee you or your friends AIM profile at some point in your lifetime was a Death Cab For Cutie song. It was probably something along the lines of lyrics from the album, Transatlanticism, if it wasn't the title track itself. I've come across many DCFC fans, countless AIM profiles that prove their fans, and I've seen above and beyond and chest pieces (more than one), that simply state, "I need you so much closer". If you're in your later teen years and in your newly twenties, you may be familiar with the band because Zooey Deschanel was married to Ben Gibbard (lead singer) for a little while. No matter how you found them, their music will change you.

If you haven't listened to DCFC at least once in your life, I suggest you change that. I also suggest you don't listen to the band between the hours of 1am and 6am. Especially Transatlanticism. I can tell you, that album got the better part of my life when it was released for about a year. Don't let that be you.

I was actually able to see Death Cab For Cutie on the Narrow Stairs tour and it was one of my favorite shows. If you don't make the show tonight, they just announced they will be coming back to the area around July. So keep your eyes peeled for that show!

On the Spotify mix: "Your New Twin Sized Bed". One of my favorite Death Cab For Cutie songs from the album, Narrow Stairs, which I feel like may not have gotten the attention it deserved. It's also my ringtone.

Openers for the night: Youth Lagoon.

Strathmore is located at 5301 Tuckerman Lane North Bethesda, MD 20852.

Unable to provide you with parking information since I have personally never been to Strathmore. However, the website does provide you with all the parking information you may need.

Tuesday 5/01: Marilyn Manson - ALL AGES - SOLD OUT - Show at 8pm (The Fillmore) Marilyn Manson legitimately terrified me when I was younger. I remember hearing about the group, when I was still trying to be one part of the Spice Girls (Honestly, I'm still trying). After the years, I began to listen to some of the music and then, he had his cameo in the film Jawbreaker (around the time he dated Rose McGowan). Jawbreaker was one of my favorite films, I'm not sure if Rose McGowan made it a favorite or the cameo of the Donnas. Regardless, I started to hear more and more of Marilyn Manson's music and it didn't creep me out as much as it used to. He also did a cover of "This is Halloween", so I began to appreciate him more.

Although, Marilyn Manson (as a stage-named person) did not stay with Rose McGowan and last I heard, he was with Evan Rachel Wood. Truthfully, I don't know which of them creeps me out more but it's okay. I don't think they're together any longer and this shouldn't be a determining factor to get you to the show but I just wanted to address it.

However, Marilyn Manson is still touring these days and still selling out venues.

On the Spotify mix: "The Dope Show" was released in 1998. The prime time where I was collecting Spice Girls barbie dolls and being somewhat frightened by the way Marilyn Manson used to sing his songs.

Openers for the night: The Pretty Reckless?/TBA

The Fillmore is located at 8656 Colesville Rd. Silver Spring, MD 20910.

Unable to provide you with parking information since I have personally never been to The Fillmore. However, the website does provide you with all the parking information you may need.

Thursday 5/3: SLASH featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators - ALL AGES - SOLD OUT - Doors at 7pm | Show at 8pm (Rams Head Live)- I'm not too sure what to expect with Slash's live show. However, if you're not familiar with Slash, he is the former lead guitarist for Guns N' Roses. Slash released a solo album in 2010 and was featured on many other artists albums for his solos. He is also set to release another album in May, Apocalyptic Love.

On the Spotify mix: "ROCKSTAR 101" was featured on Rihanna's album Rated R. Slash was the special guest on the track.

Opener for the night: Brand New Sin and Hillbilly Herald.

Rams Head Live! is located at 20 Market Place Baltimore, MD 21202.

Numerous parking garages within walking distance of Rams Head Live!

Friday 5/4: Korn - ALL AGES - Show at 8pm - (The Fillmore) - When purchasing tickets online, after fees, tickets are $54. That's a hefty price, however I never got to see the band Korn. Mostly because when Korn was in their prime, I was still listening to the Spice Girls and boy bands, etc. I do remember being in middle school when Korn became bigger and the band as a whole was actually banned from my school, this is what you get when going to a private Christian school.

Korn has recently been a household name again for 2012 (and some of 2011), some in part due to Skrillex being featured on some of their new songs. Korn has gone towards the dubstep route and the worst part is, I don't really see that big of a difference as opposed to what they were when I was in middle school. Sounds the same to me. However, they're probably picking up a lot of new fans with the Skrillex collaborations, so I guess I can back that.

On the Spotify mix: "Alone I Break" was featured on Korn's album Untouchables.

Openers for the night: TBA.

The Fillmore is located at 8656 Colesville Rd. Silver Spring, MD 20910.

Sunday 5/6: P.O.D. with Red - Doors at 6pm | Show at 6:30pm (Rams Head Live!) - Tickets are $22+ taxes in advance and $25 at the door.

Last time I saw P.O.D. live, it was with System of a Down. It was also at the happiest place on earth, which often goes by Hershey Park. I find myself having to tell people at least once a week that P.O.D. stands for Payable on Death and a Christian band. A lot of people don't believe me when I say that, but just put it together! They're currently on tour with Red, which is another Christian band.

I think it's amazing that P.O.D. is back out on the road. They've been doing the music thing since 1992 and seems like they keep going. Definitely suggest you check out their live show!

On the Spotify mix: "Youth of the Nation" was featured on P.O.D.'s album Satellite.

Openers include: Red, Love and Death (featuring Brian "HEAD" Welch of Korn), and Icon For Hire.

Rams Head Live! is located at 20 Market Place Baltimore, MD 21202.

Numerous parking garages within walking distance of Rams Head Live!

If you didn't get the hidden message in this show update, it seems like nu-metal is making a come back.

Dear Limp Bizkit,

If you're reading this, this is my open letter to asking you to do Baltimore a favor and book a tour and make it here at some point.

Love, living in the 1990's forever.

Remember when parking anywhere, lock up your vehicle and hide all your valuables. If you don't do this, you might be hurting yourself in the end. I feel like this should be common sense, but just in case you don't have that, here's your advice.

More advice, this is my opinion of where you should be. All information listed for the above shows was taken directly from the venues respective websites. Prices, times, and more can all change - so please check out the websites before heading down to the show!

The music scene is alive and well in Baltimore and you should support it!

To better prepare you for the week, I made one crazy Spotify playlist to prepare you for all the music coming this way! If you have Spotify, you can listen to the playlist here: Week of April 30th, 2012.
