Fresno backpackers who are wondering about ways to reduce their pack weights may want to attend a free interactive seminar coming up at REI Fresno. Backpacking Basics II will take place on Monday, Feb. 25, 2013 from 7 to 8 pm.
Much of what some backpackers consider essential gear may not really be required for safe and successful trips in the backcountry. If you've ever marveled at backpackers who seem to be happily carrying minimal gear or imagined a day when your pack doesn't feel twice as heavy by the end of the day, you can find out how to make lightweight backpacking your style at this REI presentation.
REI Fresno staff will discuss "how to cut weight, carry the essentials and tailor your gear to best suit your needs." Backpackers are invited to bring their packs and gear for a group "shake-down" that can help streamline packing systems and weed out unnecessary items.
The Backpacking Basics II seminar be presented at the REI Fresno store located at 7810 N. Blackstone Ave. The presentation is free, but registration is required and space is limited. You can reserve a spot online, and you don't need to be an REI member to attend.
Beginners and seasoned backpackers alike might benefit from this opportunity to scrutinize the gear they're carrying on their trips. For additional information, please call REI Fresno at (559) 261-4168.
