Oliver is based upon the Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist. In the musical, Oliver is an orphan boy how is apprenticed to an undertaker and is then kidnapped due to the possibility of him having wealthy relatives, but is then rescued.

La Traviata is an opera by Guiseppie Verdi and the title translates as 'The Fallen Woman' or more figuratively as 'The Woman Who Strayed'. This opera is about a courtesan who falls in love with a man, but leaves him as his father does not approve of her. She eventually dies of tuberculosis after she goes back to him.
