Upcoming Louisville Events for Kids

The dreary winter days can cause the whole family to get cabin fever. You can avoid some of those feelings of boredom by taking advantage of some of the upcoming events in the Louisville area.

Black History Month Events

  • Messengers for Christ: Songs of Freedom - This concert will be held at eight p.m. at the University of Louisville on Monday, February 7th. Go to Comstock Hall on the Belknap Campus. The event is completely free. 
  • Story Quilts - On February 12th head on over to the Carnegie Center for Art and History, which is located is New Albany, Indiana. This free family workshop is for kids ages 2-12. Kids will take part in making story quilt blocks. The event is from 10 a.m. to noon.
  • New Findings about Lucy Higgs Nichols - On February 15th, head to the Carnegie Center at noon for a Lunch & Learn workshop. Those attending should bring a sack lunch to enjoy. You'll learn all about Lucy Higgs Nichols, who escaped slavery. You will need to pre-register for this workshop by phoning 812.944.7336.

Family Day

The Frazier International History Museum features Second Saturday events every month. On these days, visitors get to participate in many hands-on activities at the museum. Events run from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Upcoming Second Saturdays are:

  • February 12: Celebrating African American Heritage
  • March 12: Celebrating Women's History Month
  • April 8: Celebrating the Ohio River and Louisville
  • May 14: Memorial Day
  • June 11: The Kings and Queens of England

Other Events

There are many other free and inexpensive activities to keep your children busy throughout February in and around Louisville.

  • February 19th: Storytime all day long at the Barnes & Noble at Elizabethtown Mall.
  • February 8th and February 10th: Valentines Day Candy Making Class at The Sweet Tooth. Class fee is $35. Call to reserve a spot: (502) 895-4554
  • Spring Break Camps: The Louisville Science Center offers spring break camps for school age kids in grades K through 6. Cost varies. Get more info at the Louisville Science Center website.

You'll also want to check with local businesses and shopping malls for free events. For example, Bass Pro Shops often has events for children. The local mall is a good source for fun events like the arrival of the Easter Bunny. Have fun and make those great family memories that your children will remember for a lifetime.
