There are some exciting lifting events coming up soon for area high school students
The first is the Pennsylvania State Teenage Championships, to be held on Saturday, Feb 27th, at the Emmaus High School. This is a new venue for this event. This will be a full 3 lift power meet, with each contestant getting 2 attempts each at the squat, bench press and deadlift. The meet starts at 9:00 AM, and spectators are welcome. There will be 4 platforms running for the meet. For further info, ask for football coach Joe Bottiglieri.

On March 20th, the Quakertown High School meet will be held, and probably will be setup like the meet we covered there last year, 3 or 4 platforms but only squat and bench press events. The football coach is John Donnelly, who should be able to provide more details on this if you call the school.

The Glen Mills Powerlifting team is a very strong team that travels to meets around the country.

The last but not least on our list is the 2010 Blue Bomber Invitational meet held by Palmerton High School. This is on Sunday, April 25th.
Here is a note from Football Coach Paul McArdle of Palmerton about this meet:
Teams that have participated in it include: Lehighton Area; Mahanoy Area; Marian Catholic; Minersville; North Schuylkill; Palisades; Palmerton; Panther Valley; Pen Argyl; Pine Grove; Tamaqua; Tri Valley; Williams Valley;
This year, I expect them all to be back and the following have also committed already: Salisbury, Southern Lehigh, Bangor, Northern Lehigh, and Blue Mountain
We promote it as a football lifting meet (we only do two lifts - Bench and Squat, no Deadlift and it is a 'raw' meet). “Raw” means no special squat suits or bench shirts are used. In the past, every football coach in all the schools of Carbon and Schuylkill County were invited. This year with the resignation of Brian Gilbert at Palisades, I decided to invite all of the colonial league teams in the meet too, and any other District 11 teams that are A, AA, or AAA. * Brian used to have a meet, so I didn't want to conflict with his, that is why I focused on the teams north and west of us.
