A whole bunch of recommendations for you. In order to get this posted for this evening, I've cut back on all the other shows you should also know about. This week, I'm just letting you know my recommendations for this week. I'll try not to make this a habit!
Monday, February 24th: IRON CHIC - Doors: 8PM - The Wind Up Space (Baltimore, MD)
Long Island rockers Iron Chic hit Baltimore tonight and will be playing the Wind Up Space. If it weren't for my friend Sara, I'd have no idea who this band is, but they're excellent! No advance tickets were sold for this show, so hopefully you can still make it through the door when you get there.
RIYL: If Gainesville's Fest was in Baltimore for one night, it would be at the Wind Up Space
Tuesday, February 25th: TWO COW GARAGE - Doors: 8PM - Black Cat (Washington, DC)
My late boss Wes introduced me to the music of Two Cow Garage, after we would jam out to Lucero at work all day. If it weren't for him, I would have never found the band! I love them. They make me want to dance and drink and light candles or something.
RIYL: Lucero, Drag The River, The Hold Steady, and feelings.
Wednesday, February 26th: SHAWN COLVIN - Doors: 8PM - Rams Head On Stage (Annapolis, MD)
I remember Shawn Colvin's name when I was 12 years old, it's good to know she is still touring and killing it. Hopefully, she still plays her music like it's 1997, even though its 2014. She's had a bunch of other great songs since and it would be great to see her live.
Also, just so you know, there is always times for a few small repairs.
RIYL: Female songwriters who know what they're talking about.
Thursday, February 27th: BAND OF HORSES - Doors: 6:30PM - The Lincoln Theatre (Washington, DC) - SOLD OUT
Band of Horses? Where do I even begin. I found this band because I was on Myspace, yeah it was quite a while ago. I was feeling bad about myself and being pessimistic. I read they had a song called "No One's Gonna Love You" on a friend's profile page. I obviously had to hear this song because of how sad I was at the time. Then I listened to it and he does love the person, "No one's gonna love you MORE THAN I DO". The song brought me to tears, I've been listening to them since. Have yet to see them perform, but one day!
RIYL: Music that should be sad, but usually isn't. Pretty beats and makes you wanna sway.
Friday, February 28th: HOPSIN - Doors: 7PM - Baltimore Soundstage (Baltimore, MD)
I don't know much about Hopsin other than I think he is on the come up and he has been for years. I feel like Soundstage might be too small to hold him, but I could be wrong. I do know that his press shots of his eyes have been creeping me out lately and I'll get over it. But those contacts reminds me of being in high school and being creeped out when kids wore them then.
RIYL: Underground hip hop and eye contacts.
Saturday, March 1st: THE WHISKEY GENTRY - Doors: 10PM - Hill Country DC (Washington, DC)
The Whiskey Gentry is one of my recent favorite groups that I somehow found on my own! Usually I get really great recommendations for great music by friends, however I found TWG on my own. As of recent, all the new bands I have found are usually already broken up by the time I find them. So the fact that TWG is on tour right now is mind boggling to me and you shouldn't miss it!
RIYL: Alison Krauss, bluegrass, country music with some twang.
Sunday, March 2nd: SHAGGY - Doors: 8PM - The Fillmore (Silver Spring, MD)
When I was in high school, I had a boyfriend that said Shaggy's "Angel" was about me. Nope. I kept it moving, we broke up shortly after that but Shaggy is still touring and that is amazing. If you get a chance to see him, I'm sure it's a party and shouldn't be missed. I won't be making it out, so someone go and tell me how it is.
RIYL: If it wasn't you.
If this article has told you anything is that there are a ton of shows to check out in the surrounding areas and that's not even the beginning of it. As usual, I have included a list of other shows in the area to check out at the bottom of this article. If you want me to know about a show, please e-mail me directly at email@example.com.
Remember when parking anywhere, lock up your vehicle and hide all your valuables. If you don't do this, you might be hurting yourself in the end. I feel like this should be common sense, but just in case you don't have that, here's your advice.
More advice, this is my opinion of where you should be. All information listed for the above shows was taken directly from the venues respective websites.
